July 6th journal entry
Yesterday, I wrote about how I am now a person who journals every day. So this morning, starting around 11 am (NJ time), I sat down and wrote some stuff in my journal.
Join me in building your own new habit between now and August 21st. It’s free, and comes with three free group coaching sessions.
In a minute, I’m going to share today’s entry with you. BUT FIRST, I wanted to talk about how I went about this, and how I could decide it meant I’d “failed,” even though I did the damn thing.
It’s okay if your reality doesn’t match your ideal vision.
Here is my ideal vision of my morning routine that future me does faithfully:
Get up, use bathroom, brush teeth, put on yoga togs
Do yoga in living room
Turn on coffee maker
Get shower or take sink bath, get dressed, do hair and makeup for the day
Pour coffee mindfully, really leaning into the ritual
Sit down with coffee and journal, outside if possible, and spend half an hour journaling. If inside, light a candle and really bring focus and energy to the space.
After journaling, meditate. Then visualize your successful life or achieving a particular goal. Then repeat affirmation. Then read or watch something inspirational or motivational.
Eat breakfast.
Start work day.
Here’s what I did today:
Got up, used bathroom, brushed teeth, put on yoga togs over pair of undies with holes in them. Made note to throw undies out later, rather than washing them and putting them away.
Turned on coffee maker.
Did gentle yoga in the living room. Managed to focus while doing it, which is a small miracle.
After yoga: ate breakfast, drank coffee, picked a recipe in a new cookbook, mixed and baked a cake. 🤷🏻♀️
Showered while cake baked. Got dressed and scrunched hair. Still no makeup or moisturizer on my face, even now.
Checked out daily tarot cards with Theresa Reed, The Tarot Lady on Instagram. Started to journal while she was talking.
Pulled the cake from the oven when the timer beeped. Finished my journaling.
Opened computer to start this entry, but checked an email account first.
I am refusing to discount or criticize my actions.
Frankly, it feels radical. Because I’m so conditioned to look for what’s wrong that it is super easy to pay no attention to what is right.
My goal, however, was not to do all the things in my idealized vision. Instead, I am working on practicing being a person who journals every day. And today, I journaled. Not a lot, but I wrote five paragraphs and it totally counts, even if it didn’t live up to my fantasy version where everything is “perfect.”
And now, today’s journal entry
“Aries is good at starting things & not finishing” LOL—So true! Had no idea it was my sun sign, though.
I am a person who journals every day, & so far, I’m there. Part of it was staying off my phone before starting to write. Though I used the time to do yoga—I’m so stiff & my hamstrings are so tight!—eat breakfast & make a cake.
Journaling is allowing me to get shit out of my head, which is good. And yesterday it helped to launch me into action, which was a good thing.
Simple stuff for today: Write a quick blog post & email.. Do makeup & films some Reels & a live about this thing. SOY at 1 pm. Make icing for cake. Pick up Rx. Buy goat cheese for salad. Shop at LOFT.
Remember that some days are about breaking new ground & some are about getting used to/acclimated to the new space you’re in.
You are invited to join me in building your own new habit.
