Dream your dreams and make them real.

Dream your dreams and make them real.

Long-time blog readers will know how much I love the quote “If you can dream it, you can do it,” which is from one of Disney’s “imagineers,” Thomas Fitzgerald. I take it to mean that we SHOULD dream our dreams and also pursue them. We should make our dreams real.

How to make your dreams come true.

I truly believe it’s a combination of practical work and magic. And no, I’m not talking about having a fairy godmother. There’s no “bibbidi bobbidi booing” your dream into reality.

But it doesn’t have to be that hard, either.

Here are the “simple” steps to take:

  1. First, figure out what you want, focusing in particular on the feeling state that you want to create for yourself. Don’t tell me you want money, because money is both a tool and a form of energy, but it is not a result. Tell me you want to feel at ease or at peace, or that you want a sense of freedom in your life (e.g., to make choices, travel, help yourself or others, etc.)

  2. Write down what you want, on paper, using a pen or pencil. Why? Because it’s a form of actual manifestation: you pull something—an idea or feeling—out of the ether (or your mind) and make it tangible in the real world when you write it down. Something that was only an abstract thought is now a tangible thing that you can touch and read.

  3. Spend time visualizing what your future life will look and feel like. Start noticing every little thing from that future that already exists, and expressing your gratitude for it and other good things on a daily basis. Try one of the versions of gratitude practice I shared in this older post.

I’m happy to share why this practice works if you work it, including discussing the neuroscience behind it, so if you have a question, let me know.

  4. Spend as much time daydreaming about or envisioning or listing out the things you’d like your future to entail as you possibly can. Train yourself to expect that it can actually happen, instead of constantly waving it off.

  5. Release any attachment to HOW it comes about. Trust the Universe to figure that out for you.

  6. When a “next step” presents itself that will help you in the direction of your dreams, TAKE IT.

Again, the steps aren’t that difficult, meaning that each thing is easy to understand and figure out how to do. Where they become hard is in keeping the faith, keeping those practices going, calming your nervous system and acclimatizing yourself to the new life you want, believing that it is possible, and not losing faith or beating yourself up over it all.

As you may or may not have seen, it’s about rewiring yourself in a bunch of different ways: thoughts, beliefs, nervous system, self-talk, etc. Can you do it yourself? Absolutely.

Want some help figuring out your dreams and how to rewire yourself to get there?
