And dance by the light of the moon

And dance by the light of the moon

In the midst of It’s a Wonderful Life, when we see George courting Zuzu, they sing the song “Buffalo Gals” together, which concludes “annnnnd . . . dance by the light of the moon.”

With the full Wolf moon in Cancer happening today, it’s no wonder I was singing about the moon. Does the moon affect you? For sure, it has its moments with me. It used to affect my cycle back in the days when I menstruated, and it for sure affects my mood on occasion even now.

I’ve heard people (usually dudes) pooh-pooh the idea that the moon can affect people, but my husband, Morris, tells me that for sure, full moons brought out lots of weird patients at the emergency room back when he was working as a nurse. My obstetrician/gynecologist tells me that they see more babies being born at and around the time of the full moon each month.

For that matter, do you remember the Ever Given? It was the huge container ship that blocked the Suez Canal for six days in 2021. They tried a lot of things to unstick it - tug boats and other manmade interventions. But in the end, what freed that ship (and allowed all the other ships that were backed up) to move again was . . . the full moon.

Specifically, the “king tide” caused by a full super moon.

Even scientists and engineers acknowledged that the moon’s effect on the tide would be necessary.

There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

The full moon is a great time to clean or declutter your home. It’s a fantastic time to release negative thoughts or experiences in a burning ceremony (described in this post). And the first full moon in a new year is a perfect time to clean the energy that surrounds you.

It’s a fantastic time to clear or cleanse the energy in your home.

You can cleanse your personal energy field or aura in a variety of ways. Common choices include using smoke (incense, sage, palo santo, or other smudging herbs), by cutting energy cords using a selenite or clear quartz wand, and by taking a salt bath or using a salt scrub in the shower.

You can cleanse the energy and get stuck energy in your home moving again using the tips I share in my Energy Clearing booklet, which you can nab here for free.

I have a personal tradition of going outside and howling at the full moon when its visible. Gently. So as not to alarm the neighbors. If the weather promises to be fair all night, I sometimes put my crystals outside overnight in the moonlight to allow them to cleanse their energy fields and charge them.

You can also put a container of water outside in the moonlight to charge that water. If you aren’t familiar with the practice, it can be used in spellwork or personal rituals, but you can also drink it as a way of absorbing the full moon’s energy. (If you put water out, you can put it in a jar with a lid, to keep bugs or bracken out.)

Buffalo Gals, won’t you come out tonight?
