Let's go on a treasure hunt!
This week’s decluttering tip involves money. It involves finding money, and it also involves releasing money into the world so that your financial energy is flowing again. The best part is, this is money that you are already (probably) sitting on, and just don’t realize it, so in many ways, all it costs you is a little bit of your time.
If we drill down to an atomic level, everything—money included—is energy. But I also think of money as part of an energetic exchange. For instance, I send my energy out in the form of money, and receive goods or services in return. Or I perform a service or sell an item I have created to someone, and they create an energetic exchange by paying me money in return. It’s all part of the free flow of energy in this world.
If I send money out as a donation or gift, then I am contributing to the flow. I’m also creating a slight vacuum in my own energetic space. As has been said many times, “nature abhors a vacuum”, so some form of abundance will arrive to fill that space, whether it is actual money or some other positive energy.
Much of the time, the idea of decluttering or clearing things out can feel overwhelming. It doesn’t sound like fun unless you have a true goal. For instance, decluttering a closet sounds like a chore; decluttering a closet so you can redo the inside of it and set up a desk or vanity inside it might sound like fun, if it’s a dream of yours.
You know what I think is fun? Finding money.
I don’t care if it’s a penny or nickel or $10 bill (true story) in the street, or a dollar in the pocket of a coat I haven’t worn in a while . . . I like finding money. Same goes for gift cards that still have value to them, which are basically the same thing as money.
That’s why this week, I thought I’d suggest a treasure hunt.
When is the last time you went hunting for hidden treasure?
Was it when you were a kid, digging in a sandbox? If so, why have you waited so long? This next exercise is for fun and profit!
Today, I want you to round up all of your purses, tote bags, wallets, pocket books, coin pouches . . . It’s time to find some hidden treasure.
Go through each bag, and collect any cash, gift certificates, and gift cards you find.
Clean out any trash while you are at it, because you don’t need to waste your space with dirty tissues, old receipts, worn-out emery boards, and so forth. You deserve better than that. Heck, your purse or bag deserves to be valued more highly than that.
As you are going through your coin purses, wallets, and handbags, think about whether you still like each of those bags, wallets, etc., and if you still want to keep it or use it. If so, put it away with love. If it’s an item you are ready to let go of, decide whether to seek still more treasure by selling them (online, at a second-hand shop, or through a website), or whether you want to give them away or release them to a donation site.
Know that no matter how you get rid of items that you no longer want, you are making room for more abundance and wealth to come into your life.
Please remember that anything you found is your own belonging, and that you can spend it (or save it) any way you want. If you have gift cards or gift certificates that have sat unused because you have been saving them, consider using them within the next 30 days as a way of circulating your wealth and getting positive energy flowing again. If it’s not a card for someplace or something that you want, give it to someone who will use it.
If you want to add an extra boost of energy to your self-esteem, try this mirror exercise:
Head to your friendly mirror with your booty once you are done with your treasure hunt. (Pun entirely intended.)
Hold that money up, whether it’s a penny or a thousand dollars, a fistful of gift cards or one gift certificate.
Make eye contact with yourself—real eye contact, where you truly see yourself inside—and say: “Hello, smart creature. I found the treasure I hid along the way. I am making room for more abundance.”
Once you are done, put all the money, cards, etc., that you have collected somewhere so that you can use it (or bank it) in the near future.
That’s it!
